Househunters If you've been watching programmes like Place in the Sun, and are looking for a property in this area and would like to talk to someone who has been through it we would be more than happy to sit over a glass of wine and go over the basics. We've renovated the gite and most of the house (and one day we might just finish it all!) and so can give you pointers as to the do's and don'ts. We can also put you in touch with a number of estate agents in the area, many of whom now speak very good English! No charge !! Just as a quick example of what some local properties are like, some of our French friends have just sold a house in our hamlet of Villemonteix. It is a former smithy (or forge if you prefer!) with an overall floor space of 82m sq. The main living area measures 56m sq with an adjacent room measuring 26m sq which is currently used as the bedroom and shower room. The main living area has a beautiful provencal tiled floor, a lot of visible stonework and woodwork, and 4 large windows. The roof has been recently renovated and a new septic tank has been fitted. Heating is by electricity and this has been set up to benefit from the low price rating.
Outside there is also a small 'cave' or cellar. The land measures 1685m sq and is mainly to grass with some fruit trees.
Still available from the same friends is their other house which is just across the road from the forge - a typical small stone- built house in the heart of the hamlet. In many ways this would make an ideal holiday home as there is only the tiniest of gardens attached to this property (but there is a large parking area)- which means that you wouldn't be spending your entire holiday gardening!
Downstairs is an open plan sitting room/kitchen (40m sq) with plenty of old oak beams and a fantastic open fireplace, whilst up the old oak staircase there are 3 rooms plus an attic. I don't think that our friends will be leaving their collection of wine, but we can testify that the cellar is a great place to keep wine!
